NEARBY PARKS & TRAILS

One of the great advantages of the farm's location is its proximity to many national and state parks for hiking and horseback trail riding.  Below are links to just a few of the many that are reachable in a short amount of time.

GATHLAND STATE PARK -  One mile away atop South Mountain and along side the Appalachian Trail, this state park is situated and home to one of the few, or only, monuments to the free press.  Constructed by Alfred Townsend, a Civil War correspondent, it is maintained by the park service as a MD treasure that is visited by many tourists each year.  It reveals a fascinating history of one man in a distant and momentous time.

APPALACHIAN TRAIL -  Following the top of South Mountain just 1 mile away from the farm is this historic national trail connecting Maine and Georgia along the Appalachian mountains.  We've hiked it numerous times over short distances covered easily on a weekend day.
